The challenge aims to raise awareness of sustainability and the principles of circularity within the fashion industry, encouraging students to develop creative solutions that contribute to a more sustainable future.

What is included in the information pack?
The information pack, which will be sent to participants from January 2026 onwards upon registration, offers an introduction to help participants understand the topic and develop their proposals.

What are the format requirements for submission?
Participants shall explore technologies in the following areas and submit ideas or proposals that can transform materials (or waste) into resources: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Biotechnology, 3D Printing, Environmental Chemistry or Present Your Own Idea.
Submissions shall be in the format of a presentation deck that includes:
- Proposal Concept: A clear description of your proposal.
- Technology Field(s): Artificial Intelligent, Biotechnology, Environmental Chemistry, 3D Printing or Present Your Own Idea.
- Visual Representations: Examples include drawings, diagrams, sketches, or pictures that illustrate your proposal concept.
- Environmental and Social Impact Considerations: Discuss the environmental and social implications of your design.
Please note that the submission format, except for the physical prototype or mood board, can only be in PDF or MP4, with a maximum file size limit of 10 MB.

Can we submit a physical prototype or mood board in addition to the presentation deck?
Yes, participants are welcome to submit a physical product or mood board to Open Lab. Please include “Open Lab Challenge” on the parcel. We will consider the date shown on the postmark on the envelope as the submission date.

How will the submissions be evaluated?
Submissions will be evaluated based on creativity, feasibility, sustainability impact, and alignment with the challenge goals. A panel of judges will review the entries.

Results will be announced in July 2026, and participants will be notified by email as soon as the results are available on the website.

What is the mode of presentation at the 2026 HKRITA Symposium?
The presentations of the winners from both the High School and University groups will be held physically or via video recording Symposium. Awardees winners will have 2-5 minutes to deliver their project ideas.
